Have you ever struggled to lose weight, even with diet, exercise, and other lifestyle changes? You’re not alone. In fact, statistics show that almost half of all Americans are overweight or obese, and many find it difficult to shed the pounds they desperately want to. And because of the long-term health impact associated with weight gain, we’ve decided it’s high time to start treating obesity like the chronic condition it is.
Enter ZüpMed’s cardiometabolic weight loss program. Complete with weekly monitoring, medication management, and a preventive care approach, we’ve helped patients do much more than lose weight. We’ve helped them wean off medication, reduce the risk for comorbidities, and take their lives back.
These are their stories.
Meet Sara
Lost 75+ pounds with compounded semaglutide, dietary supplements, and ongoing monitoring
Symptoms & Diagnosis
Sara is an East Memphis mom of three beautiful children, and, like many moms, Sara’s weight gain didn’t happen overnight. She never felt like she was a “bad eater.” She played tennis every week for 13 years. And yet, even though she felt she was doing everything right, Sara met the FDA indication for obesity when she first joined our weight loss program.
Sara told us she’d filled her to-do list exercising, intermittent fasting, and the like – and yet nothing ever stuck. She still felt the strain on her joints, she still felt the brain fog, and she still felt the effects of major inflammation. Moreover, with a family history of obesity and chronic disease, Sara felt it was becoming a life-or-death matter.
To top it all off, her insurance wouldn’t pay for the branded weight loss drugs like Ozempic or Mounjaro that she really needed, despite the fact that she met FDA indications for obesity.
Treatment
To help Sara feel better overall, we prescribed a compounded form of semaglutide, the generic medication for Ozempic. We also encouraged her to up her protein intake to maintain her muscle mass and reduce the effects of caloric deficiency. Additionally, we conducted a blood panel to determine any dietary deficiencies and prescribed a set of natural supplements to boost her health in general.
By meeting with her every week, we were able to monitor her progress, make adjustments as needed, and answer any and all questions Sara had to make sure her treatment ran smoothly and safely.
Results
“Is this a quick fix or a lifestyle change?” she asked Dr. Finks at the beginning of treatment. One year and 75 pounds later, the answer is clear. This is Sara’s new normal, achieved all without feeling that she had to forcefully restrict her food intake or pay exorbitant out-of-pocket fees.
We reversed her inflammation and improved her joint pain. She’s even described a natural urge to eat more fruits and vegetables that made her slower, more consistent weight loss just feel right.
Some of the effects surprised Sara. She recalled getting headaches without her daily cup of coffee or drinking the occasional glass of wine on weekends with friends. However, because GLP1s like semaglutide reduce the “food noise,” they also made it easier for Sara to reduce her caffeine and alcohol intake, which further compounded her health benefits.
Now, Sara is on a maintenance dose to help her keep her results while leaning more into natural weight management through portion control and exercise. She will continue to drop pounds little by little until she reaches her goal weight. Until then, she’s got her life back.
Meet Anna
Lost 100+ pounds with hormone correctors, dietary medication, and compounded tirzepatide.
Symptoms & Diagnosis
When Anna joined our weight loss program in the middle of Covid, she was 16 years old. She explained that while she had always been slightly overweight, she had gained weight rapidly during quarantine, with no visible explanation as to why. She hadn’t changed her diet, so without an explanation, she felt ashamed, like it was her fault for the number on the scale.
Dr. Finks has a heart for teenagers, and immediately, her heart went out to Anna. After testing, we found that she had metabolic disease, meaning her lab values and risk markers explained some of why she experienced such a rapid weight gain. To add to the fact, she also had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), and ran the risk of developing diabetes.
With a diagnosis to help her understand what was happening to her, she immediately began to feel better about herself. And now, we had room to make even more of a difference.
Treatment
To begin, we started Anna on hormone correctors to balance out her higher estrogen levels. We also recognized that Anna would benefit greatly from weight loss medication like Ozempic. Like Sara, however, Anna’s insurance denied her coverage, even though she met the necessary indicators and the medicine would clearly have helped prevent future conditions.
So, we prescribed Anna a compounded form of tirzepatide along with gut health supplements to help her keep the weight off once she had lost it. She also began working out three times a week and choosing healthier food options. We then met with her once a week to track her progress and make sure she stayed on the right track.
Results
Today, Anna is thriving in college in the northeast. She’s lost over 100 pounds, reversed many of her PCOS symptoms, and changed her life drastically to match her new sense of self. Because the weight dropped over a two-year period, she feels the time investment has made her appreciate the change that much more.
She now finds every occasion to go on a walk instead of Uber or choose the healthy options in the college cafeteria rather than the junk food. Anna is currently on a maintenance dose to help her keep her results for the long term. Her commitment is inspiring, and we’re so proud to have been a part of her journey.
Meet Dave
Lost 100+ pounds while managing diabetes with compounded medications.
Symptoms & Diagnosis
When Dave joined our program, he was managing Type 2 diabetes alongside obesity. He initially had access to branded weight loss medication, but supply shortages disrupted his treatment. Despite having insurance that covered the medication, availability became a significant barrier, and Dave needed a consistent plan to stay on track.
Treatment
To bridge the gap during medication shortages, we prescribed Dave a compounded form of the necessary GLP-1 medication. This ensured he could maintain his progress rather than experiencing dangerous interruptions in his treatment. Alongside the medication, Dave also made important lifestyle changes, including a focus on healthier eating habits and regular physical activity. We met with Dave regularly to monitor his progress, adjust dosages, and provide ongoing support.
Results
Today, Dave has lost over 100 pounds and significantly improved his diabetes management. The compounded medication allowed him to continue his journey without interruption, and with the consistency of weekly monitoring, he was able to achieve significant health milestones.
Dave’s determination to stay on track, despite the obstacles posed by medication shortages, demonstrates his resilience and dedication. It has been an honor to support him every step of the way as he transformed his health and regained control of his life.
Why ZüpMed’s Weight Loss Program Works
What do Sara, Anna, and Dave have in common besides their impressive weight loss? They had a team that actually cared, providing personalized attention that went beyond the generic “here’s your diet plan, see you never” approach. At ZüpMed, patients don’t just get comprehensive medication—they get education, support, and a roadmap for success.
In-Clinic Research Study
Now for the science behind the stories. Our team conducted a six-month in-clinic research study with 50 ZüpMed weight loss patients. On average, patients lost about 11% of their total body weight, and saw major improvements in BMI, waist size, and blood pressure. More than that, we reversed prediabetes by 90% and metabolic syndrome by 80%.
These results show how well compounded medications, combined with weekly check-ins and personalized care, can help people who struggle with weight loss.
